I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m an absolute sucker for a cute art style. That’s why the trailer for the new Metroidvania, Dewborne Dawn, caught my eye – I wanted to know who that adorable blue creature was. The game itself is completely hand-drawn, which includes the characters, animations, and backgrounds!

Dew Drops By!

That creature is in fact, Dew. To be honest, she’s a mystery unto herself, with no recollection of who he is or where she is. All she knows is that she’s got a weapon and she needs to fight to survive – but from what exactly?

The Spiritblight has taken over Ephemore, killing off most living beings. The Final Bastion is supposed to be the safest place in the world, that is until the pesky Spiritblight manages to get through the barrier created by the late gods.

The Gameplay of Dewborne

Combining Metroidvania gameplay with platformer traversal mechanics, Dewborne Dawn may look like other games, but I assure you, it’s something fresh! Use your weapon to attack your foes as your companion strikes them down with a wide array of abilities. Swap out your companions to experiment with their different skills to discover which works best for your playstyle.

That’s not the only bit of freedom you get though, as the entire direction of the game depends on what you do, or rather, where you go. It’s up to you to find out where you’re going and which route takes you to where you need to be. And for achievement hunters? Well, you’ve got a variety of secrets to uncover as you explore the decrepit surroundings.
