The latest Antro teaser certainly ramps up the hype for the upcoming rhythm-based platformer. While you may have seen plenty of rhythm games in recent times, have you seen one that’s set in an underground dystopian city? Well, that’s what Antro is, so let’s delve into it!

To me, it’s like Inside, Limbo, and Cyberpunk 2077 have combined to create this absolute gem of a game – but throw in the twist of rhythm-based action. The puzzles also remind me of Limbo, arguably one of the best puzzle-platformer indie titles ever made.

The Funky Soundtrack of Antro

The snippets of music already sound extremely catching and seem to cover the genres of drill, hip-hop, and what sounds like a hint of DnB – the Breakcore fans will be happy. One of the most important aspects of a rhythm game is the soundtrack, and Antro is ticking all the boxes so far.

The music closely ties in with the direction of the storyline, as well as what exactly is occurring on your screen at that exact moment. Overall, it makes for a fantastically immersive experience, with the soundtrack expertly matching the cyberpunk vibes of Antro.

Impressive Lore and Setting

Lore-wise, I’m intrigued. Humans must now live underground due to the major Collapse. Research shows that only 1% of the human population survived the incident and that 1% now reside in Antro – the depths below Barcelona. The hellish standard of living underground has turned to “survival of the fittest”, with a government that has turned to totalitarianism. Developing a brand-new city has led to the development of automation and overproduction – hence the abundance of digitalised machinery and mechanical structures throughout.

The residents of Antro cannot express themselves, with all forms of enjoyment banned, forcing them to live a life of mundanity and oppression. Nittch and the Discordants have had enough, deciding to set out on a revolutionary journey to destroy the lethal patterns of La Cúpula – but it won’t be easy.
