You Will Die Here Tonight Reimagines Resi 1 As an Isometric Puzzler / First Person Shooter

2025-11-30

Every now and then, an indie game arrives that scratches an itch you didn’t know you had. You Will Die Here Tonight did exactly that for me today, right in time for Halloween.

Though it doesn’t explicitly state it anywhere (because copyright infringement exists), You Will Die Here Tonight is, effectively, a reimagination of Resident Evil 1.

It trades the fixed camera angles for an isometric viewpoint, and invites you to explore a pretty faithful recreation of the Spencer Mansion.

What’s You Will Die Here Tonight?

Just like in the game that inspired it, you run around collecting items, using them to solve puzzles, and battle the undead that you encounter along the way.

This is where You Will Die Here Tonight shifts things up further. Rather than shooting from an isometric perspective, as soon as you whip out your pistol you swap to a first person perspective.

Here, you can aim at specific body parts just like in modern entries, like Resident Evil Village. There’s a sequence where you blast off an enemy’s head, revealing a weak point.

Which Weapons Can I Use?

There’s a wide variety of weaponry to use too, from pistols, to shotguns, and submachine guns. If it was in Resi 1, it probably makes an appearance here.

The plot is very reminiscent too. You play as a member of the ‘Aries Division’, which look suspiciously like S.T.A.R.S. members. You then have to investigate what happened in the not-Spencer Mansion.

You Will Die Here Tonight delivers on its promise, as not all members of your team will make it through the night. In certain sequences, they even come back to try and kill you.

Death is an Interesting Mechanic

If you die, you simply take over as another member of the team and try again. You even face your old self as a zombie, which is pretty cool.

That adds an extra layer to resource management. If you take too much as one character, you might leave the character you play as next a little short.

If you fancy taking on the undead in this terrifying mansion, go ahead and grab You Will Die Here Tonight right now on Steam. It’s out today, right in time for Halloween.
