Monster Hunter 6 Will Reportedly Launch on Nintendo Switch 2

2025-11-29

It’s no longer a case of ‘if’ the Switch 2 will happen, but ‘when’. The past few months have been absolutely rife with rumours and leaks, ranging from technical breakdowns to Nintendo reportedly showcasing the new system to developers at Gamescom back in August.

The latest rumour claims that the next entry in the Monster Hunter series will launch on the Switch 2, though there are no further details. Leaker Necroclip made the claim in a Famiboards thread discussing the future of the Monster Hunter series.

Will Monster Hunter 6 Launch on Nintendo Switch 2?

I mean, it’s not super surprising news given that Monster Hunter and Nintendo are best friends. Looking back at the series’ history, of the six mainline entries in the series, four have launched on Nintendo platforms. Heck, three of them were exclusives too, whether timed or full.

The latest entry, Monster Hunter Rise, launched on Switch almost a year before the rest of the platforms. Capcom clearly developd it with the Switch in mind, given the huge step back in visuals from the previous entry, Monster Hunter: World, which never launched on Switch.

Capcom clearly sees Nintendo’s platforms as a key market for the Monster Hunter series. It is worth noting that Necroclip didn’t go so far as to claim that it would be exclusive to the platform.

It may well be that it’s just one of the platforms, and we will see a simultaneous release on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, and PC. We simply won’t know until Capcom formally announces it, and that might be difficult given that Nintendo is yet to announce its new hardware.

What’s Monster Hunter 6?

So what is known about Monster Hunter 6 at this point? In a word: nothing. The only official word on its existence by Capcom arrived in a tweet on September 21, when the publisher announced that it hoped to “bring you bigger, better, and even more exciting hunting experiences that will thrill and surprise you.”

The tweet ended with the tantalising “we invite you, dear hunters, to join us on the journey ahead.” Also, the series’ 20th anniversary lands on March 11, 2004. Could we get an announcement then? Well, it certainly lines up with a potential timeline for a Switch 2 announcement by Nintendo.
